the Young Guitarist

The Young Guitarist is a photography project which as an idea inspired by Picasso’s painting, the Old Guitarist. The aim was to reproduce the painting by shooting it with an alive model and real objects in order to challenge one of Picasso’s anatomically impossible painted figures. Since, the complexity of conducting the exact body form given in the painting was obvious, the aim lead to reinterpreting the figure by taking it to a different viewpoint. As the Old Guitarist belongs to painer’s Blue Period, it is one of his works that associated with his early and hard times reflecting the monochromatic, unhappy and hopeless characteristics. This project seeks a way to bring a hope and dynamism to the subject matter of this piece, whereas the exaggeratedly lenghtened and attenuated forms of the certain dramatically significant parts of the body are still preserved. Thus, again with respect to Picasso, the experience with the figure came up with the notion of removing the boundries of not only the perspective but also the time period as well.
